I used to do what you do – and it is fine.

I just find it easier to do the thumb drop, mainly because the hand/wrist keep the same relaxed shape no matter which string you are on.

I have changed my playing technique many times over the years and can only teach what I believe to be currently the best.

When applying a new technique, you have to try it for some time before making a truly informed comparison and decision.

I rarely put my thumb on any of the strings to dampen/mute them, but instead, i put my two unused fingers on my right hand and put them on the string above the string i’m not playing (if i was playing the a string, my 2 unused right handed fingers would be resting on the E String); is that O.K., or should i try to adjust my style?
