Kajagoogoo – Too Shy – bass lesson
By popular demand I present this incredible bass line from the truly talented Nick Beggs of Kajagoogoo. Playing my G&L L2000 (BABE Edition) in single coil mode, both pickups active, with everything all the way up. I am playing it “my way.” Please don’t bother with “that’s not exactly right” comments. That’s getting quite old. Enjoy!
UPDATE: I may re-do this video but for the meantime know that the 5th and 6th notes in the chorus are F and G not G and A as I played it. So, the first part of the chorus goes – low D high D G A F G high G high G
Also, there is a tab out there written by Beggs himself. After studying it I realized that what I am playing is more of a hybrid between the bass and the “synth bass” lines. At times they are doing quite different things and it can be hard to pick out the notes.

One last thing: …
One last thing: See what you can do with the bass part in “One Thing Leads to Another” by the Fixx. It sounds simple but the fingering is unexpected. It’s fun to play once you get it. That’s all. Thanks.

Excellent and Thank …
Excellent and Thank you! I could never figure this one out. It’s the weirdest bass line in all pop music. My band had to opt not to play this because I couldn’t get in the pocket with the bass part. It’s like he played it with rubber strings. It’s definitely master class so you’re one up on me. Never had a problem with John Taylor, Geddy Lee, Mars Cowling, Flea but this one stumped me.

Awesome job. I like …
Awesome job. I like this song, and the bass line caught my attention the first few times i heard it. Its rather unusual to have a line like this in an 80s pop song i think. You did a good job playing it, and i think your tone is awesome and pretty close to Marcus Miller’s tone.

That’s funny …
That’s funny because “what is that guitar that sounds different and what is that guy doing?” is the very thought that made me want to play bass when I heard “Is there something I should know?” for the first time. Nice way to summarize it!

I have to credit this song with getting me to wonder “what is that guitar that sounds different and what is that guy doing?” during my younger 80´s days, ha, ha!!! Great lesson, thank you as usual zumaz.
