I want to learn how to scream, but i can't afford to take vocal lessons along with bass lessons.

practice inhaling and exhaling a lot, and just slowly work on doing simple growls before you try to scream words or lines. i'm starting to learn, as well. it's super hard =/

music books suck for teaching, they are fine once you get the basics down, but not to start with

first find out online how to read tabs(link1)
now your going to want to practice lots and lots of scales(link2,3) with a metronome(link4)
once you know how to read tabs and can keep a strong steady beat it will be easy to increase your skills over time
