Okay, now that you’ve watched me play a few examples of two-handed piano playing, it’s time for you to join me on the keyboard and play your first piano ignment with both hands! And I really hope you’ve been practicing your numbered fingering exercises during our fist six lessons, because now all that hard work is going to come in handy. We’ll begin slowly practicing two separate piano pieces with each hand and then use a computerized metronome to guide us along by paying special attention the THE BEAT! Only 10 ten minutes of this very informative video are shown here, but you can catch the entire length video lesson (for free as always) simply by going to: http://www.get-piano-lessons.com/lesson-piano.html

My student is 18 but has no piano experience. He has some musical background so he knows what the notes are on the staff but, obviously, doesn't know how to transfer that to the keys. What should I do? I have an idea and plan but I'd love to get your advice.
Hey there, I teach piano too.
Firstly, I would start teaching him the five first notes (DO to SOL, thumb to pinky) for both hands (physically show him each note, and then he would repeat what you played, etc). Show him which keys are where on the piano and when he is comfortable with the five notes, then continue onto LA and SI. Start with simple songs that only involve those five notes and then progress to the other notes. And it would help if you had a 'piano notes chart' for him…I'm pretty sure you can download it or get it somewhere easily..
Hope that helped!

Hey, this is a short but sweet video on a few licks in D. I hope you like the rather zoomed in camera angle, and that it is not to blurry.
Please leave a comment so I know what you think.
Thanks,
Ben

‘This Nearly Was Mine’ – solo jazz piano lesson. To clearly read the music, you will need the high quality youtube version – http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=qe8OF8ymzGM&fmt=18
Wonderful tune from South Pacific – lots of jazz pianists have played it – Fred Hersch, Chick Corea, Dick Hyman, Cecil Taylor.
I tried to keep this as simple as I could – in the key of C, no re-harmonisation or difficult to execute runs. My favourite Keith Jarrett album is the one he recorded straight after having chronic fatigue – ‘The Melody At Night With You’ where he plays great songs in a lovely simple way, with minimal improvisation and no grunts and groans! Non pianists please ignore the comments/explanations.
This would be easy for an intermediate pianist to play from the transcription which is on my DVD along with a melody and chords leadsheet. Details regarding the DVD, the midi file,, and a superior quality copy of this videoto freely download are on my website at
